Margaret Hargrove

Margaret Hargrove is a Listening and Spoken Langauge certified, Speech Langauge Pathologist who received her Master of Arts degree from Syracuse University in May of 1999. She worked on the Cochlear Implant Team at the Buffalo Hearing and Speech Center prior to working at The Listening Center of Johns Hopkins, Baltimore. In 2004, Margaret began A Sound Beginning, a private practice focused on providing the best therapy programs available for children with hearing loss and a variety of other speech and language disorders. Margaret has earned the highest continuing education award (ACE) from the American Hearing and Speech Association several times including during 2016. She has also been appointed by Maryland’s Governor to the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Program’s advisory board and has been selected for the ad hoc EHDI Screening and Beyond Advisory Committee to speak on Listening and Spoken Language during a webinar for Maryland’s pediatricians.

Kelly Pool

Kelly Pool is a graduate of Elizabethtown College, PA where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in May 2016. She then continued her studies at The University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA of which she will graduate this December 2018 with her Master of Arts degree in Speech and Language Pathology. Kelly has been a great addition to A Sound Beginning and has been able to work with children with a variety of needs such as articulation and language development, auditory skills development, social skills development and fluency improvement.

Rena Levi

Rena Levi received her Master of Arts degree from the University of North Texas in May of 2002. She then went on for advanced training and successfully met the requirements of AG Bell to become a Listening and Spoken Langauge Specialist in 2006. Before working with A Sound Beginning, Rena has worked at an oral preschool program for children with hearing loss in NYC and has worked for Baltimore County schools.

Elizabeth Ray

Elizabeth Ray, our preschool classroom teacher, received her teaching certificate in early childhood from Howard Community College in Columbia, Maryland. She is also a Marriotts Ridge High School graduate who concentrated on child development courses. Elizabeth loves working with children and in addition to leading our classroom, she teaches children’s classes at her church. Elizabeth has had two years of experience with A Sound Beginning’s curriculum, The Investigator’s Club. She is able to effectively plan lessons to meet the needs of the children by combining this curriculum with her own experience.

Carrie Farrington

Carrie Farrington attended University of Maryland, Baltimore County where she received a degree in Psychology. For several years, she worked for Kennedy Kreiger Institute in the Behavioral Psychology Unit. There, she received extensive ABA experience. She received her Master of Arts degree in Speech Language Pathology from Loyola University in Maryland in 2012. In addition to A Sound Beginning, she works for Howard County Public schools.
